How do you get your cuticles to look soo nice and clean:)?
Good question! Part of it I think is good hand genes, but that’s not really helpful at all. I use some Sally Hansen brand cuticle remover probably about once or twice a month- it depends on how they’re looking and on if I remember to use it or not. Then (again when I remember to do so) I use CND Solar Oil on my cuticles after I paint my nails. I love this stuff as it does a great job of moisturizing and it smells greaaaaat. Hope that helps!
hello(; i was wondering, what do you use to clean your nail brushes? Every time i do nail art with actually nail polish (instead of acrylic paint like i normally do), it never seems to come off and ruins my brushes
I clean them off with pure acetone, as that gets the nail polish off best. i just dip the brush into acetone and rub it on a cotton ball and repeat until the brush is all clean! Make sure you do it right after you finish using the brush as they get really difficult to clean if you let the paint dry in the bristles. Thanks for the question!
Hey! Just had a quick question for an awesomely sarcastic and wonderfully witty nail artist just as you happen to be. How do you get the money for the brand name nail polish? I've been shopping around forever trying to find the nice stuff for a little cheaper than $8 a bottle with close to no luck. I still find myself buying the clearance NYC dollar stuff at Target, as I am unwilling to purchase a bottle more than $5. Any tips on getting them cheaper?
A lot of the brand name stuff I wait for birthdays/Christmas/my mom feeling generous, but I also happen to have this wonderful store nearby my apartment at school called “Save Mart” and it has an INSANE amount of beauty supplies there, like OPIs, China Glazes, Essies and the likes for around 5 dollars or less which is a vast improvement on 8 or 9 dollars. I do also buy lots of cheap nail polish because sometimes the quality is no worse. It really just depends on what’s worth it to you. If there’s a color I’ve been pining over for a long time or is something I know I’ll use all the time, I don’t have too much problem spending 8 dollars on a bottle. I still have never purchased any nail polish in the double digits before though… That will be a difficult day for me, as it’s bound to happen sooner or later. I think I answered your question? Also ebay and amazon often have older polishes for cheaper- you just have to keep an eye on shipping in those cases. Hope that helps!
Hello! I'm a relatively new follower, and I've just browsed your archive for any nails with rhinestones/gems. Couldn't spot any but I was wondering if you could help anyway... Whenever I use them, and slick over a topcoat, the mirror-shine dulls and they look more like a stud/bullion. Is this the type of rhinestones I'm using, or the topcoat, or just me? Lol... Thanks in advance XOXO
I actually just did my friend’s nails yesterday with some rhinestones, and I used Sally Hansen Dry Instantly as a top coat over it and that seemed to keep them shiny. Hope that works out for you! Thanks : )
Hey Lady! I saw that you said you have yellowing. To prevent staining, I buff once a week (lightly though so it's not weakening) and use this magical soak thing about once every two weeks or so. It's these white tablets that you put in warm water you can get it at Walgreens, I think. And then I sit there while watching cheesy TV shows. I have also heard that straight up lemon juice works. Good luck to you! Love Anna
Ahhhh yesss, excellent. All of these suggestions are so helpful. I used to buff weekly or so but lately have been slacking off so I really need to work on that one… And I will definitely look for those tablets! You tell me something is magical and you’ve convinced me. Thanks! : )
Hi! First off, love your blog! Your personality def comes through and makes me wanna be friends with you, in a totally non-creepy way haha. You inspired me to make my own blog :) Anywhooo, I was wondering if you had ever tried making your own custom nail polishes? I was thinking about adding really fine-grained glitter from the craft store and/or MAC pigments to clear polish. Thoughts? p.s. it would be a great and venerable honour for me if you followed me :D Thanks, & keep up the awesomeness!
Thank you so much! You are so adorable haha. I have never made one of my own polishes from scratch, though I do have a few that I’ve mixed together from colors I already owned because I didn’t like how the color actually looked on me. I don’t think doing frankening is for me because I’m a big lover or creme nail polishes, but I think it looks BADASS if you’re good at it. There are so may cool polishes out there because of it!
Hey! Love your blog! I'm actually just getting into nail art (and practicing my patiently waiting for my packages with brushes and stuff in the mail) and I was wondering what brands you used the most/what your top picks are? Because I use my food money on nail polish most of the time, and like to stay cheap while I don't want crappy nail polish. Also, which colors would you say are the most important first? I can't afford them all, and would like a good starting pallet. Thanks!
Hello and thank you! I am patiently waiting for brushes in the mail too right now and it’s such a draaag haha. Some really great cheap nail polish brands are Sally Hansen Xtreme wear and the Quick Dry line she has. Wet n Wild and Milani also make pretty good quality polishes on the cheap. I think when you’re first starting with nail art, you should get about one of each basic color, so just a cheap red orange yellow green, etc etc etc. Also having a good black and white is super important as well. Beyond that, I’d say just get colors that you really love using for nail art. I use a lot of bright pastel shades, and usually in cooler colors, but if you like bright pinks and oranges best, you should get those! I also think cremes are best for nail art, but in the end, besides those basic shades, it’s all about preference! Good luck with nail art! It’s a great hobby to have : )
Have you've tried cutting up limes and sticking your nails in them for 10 secs? I'll get rid of the yellow stains on your nails (:
I have not! I tried a mix of making soda and hydrogen peroxide once and that didn’t really do anything, but I’m going to the grocery store tomorrow, so maybe I’ll get some limes then! Thanks for the suggestion!
What do your nails look like without any polish since you wear nail polish all the time?
would you guys wanna see? BECAUSE UGH THEY ARE SO YELLOWY AND STAINED ITS SO ANNOYING. i was wearing some design with naked tips once and a friend commented on the yellow because he thought i put it there. also they’re kind of ridged and beaten up because i play volleyball and it’s hell on your fingers. it makes me sad sometimes because I wanna do designs that are little peekaboo cutout guys (wow can’t remember their actual name right now) but my natural nail color isn’t pretty. I still have yet to find a nail base that ACTUALLY prevents staining.
and that answer was much longer than i anticipated. whoops.
Hi!!!! I LOVE LOVE LOVE LOVE your blog and all your nail designs!!!!!! So much!!!!!!!! You're very inspiring :) I wanted to ask, where do you get inspiration for designs, and how are they so perfect???
Thank you so much! I get my inspiration from anywhere I can- other nail designs, fashion, architecture, nature, and even packaging for things at walmart or giant can offer up some cool ideas. If I see something that I think would translate well into nail art, I just snap a photo with my phone so I don’t forget about it, and then go through those photos when I have no idea what to do with my nails.
As far as them being perfect goes, I’d have to say they aren’t haha, but all it takes to make things look good is a lot of patience and even more practice! The further back you go on my blog, the more you can see how much I’ve grown in only a few months!
Your nails are so gorgeous! Everytime I see a picture in my news feed I am amazed! I was just wondering if you have any tips on how to strengthen your nails? Everytime I try to grow mine to a length similar to yours, they get really brittle and snap, it's annoying because I would love to have beautiful nails like yourself! :)
Thank you so much! You are too kind : ) And as for your question, I use OPI’s Nail Envy under just about every manicure I do and that really seems to work well. I do have naturally pretty strong nails, but my mom and one of my friends both have pretty brittle/peely nails, and they’ve started using it too and their nails have improved greatly since then. Hope that helps!
i have been stalking you here for the past couple of hours, and have dug out ALL of my nail polishes and have random mis-matched nails right because i couldn't pick one design to do :P i think i may be in love with you! also i think its super adorable how shy you are on your youtube videos and would LOVE to see more tutorials because without them my attempts to copy your art are looking horrible :)...You're amazing. that is all (sorry if this doesn't make sense, word vomit kinda thing going on)
Um, excuse me, you are seriously adorable. I am HOPING PLANNING TRYING TO MAKE MYSELF get out another tutorial this week. I’ve been going through some butt-sy stuff this past few weeks, but I am feeling much better now, as well as reinvigorated to make a tutorial. It’s people like you that make me want to do them! I’m so happy I could inspire you to dig out all your polishes. That is ALWAYS a good thing. Thank you so so much! : )
Hey Candice, How did you get the stars on your american flag manicure so perfect??
I started off with a little dot in the very center of the star, and then used a teeny tiny nail art brush (it was already small and then I cut off about half of the bristles to make it even skinnier) and dragged out tiny points from the middle dot. Hope that helps!
your nails are brilliant! how long have you been blogging on here for?
Thank you! I’ve had a blog on here since this past summer, and have been posting nail designs since august or so? I didn’t get real serious about the blog since 3 or 4 months ago would be my guess, and now i LOVE it. it keeps me sane!
Have you ever thought of selling nail sets online? :) and just wanted to say thanks because you always seem to cheer me up with your work! :3
I have, actually. I’ve never worked with fake nails or nail sets before, and I don’t really have the time during the school year, but I think that’s definitely a possibility this summer! And thank YOU so much. It’s so nice to hear that I can make others feel better : )
How in the world did you do those Galaxy nails? Lets narrow that question down a tad...What type of nail polish did you use to create it?
I’m glad you asked about the galaxy nails, because that’s an easy question to answer. 1: google “galaxy nails tutorial” and there will be a sea of really great videos or blog posts giving you step by step instructions on how to do it much better than I can explain in writing.
2: as for the polishes I used, my base was a shimmery black polish and then I just used white, bright blue, and yellow to make the little nebulas. I also used a little bit of holographic glitter over the colors to give them some sparkle. Hope this helps!
Mr. Candice I don't I have question, I just wanted to tell you I think you are awesome!
I am so in love with the fact that you just called me Mr. Candice. It is a first, and it is THE BEST. I’d usually answer this kind of message privately, but this is gonna get published because of that fact. You are fantastic.
What is your favorite base coat, and you favorite top coat? I love painting my nails, but I don't have time to do them every day and my polish usually chips in a day or two,
The ones I’ve been using lately are OPI’s Nail Envy matte as my base coat and then Sally Hansen Dries Instantly on top. Ones I’ve also liked are Orly’s Nail Bonder base coat and of course Seche Vite top coat is a holy grail item of sooo many people on here, I just find it shrinks too much for my liking. I hope this is helpful!
HEY GIRL, i think your nails are fly as hell and also the reason i originally started following you is cause you made me giggle with your sarcasm and the way you write. there aren't many people who make me go "hey i kinda wanna be her friend and paint our nails togethz and stuff cause she's funny and kinda awkward and sarcastic like me" in addition to being like "omg i need those nails right now!!!1" luv, just another creepy nail stalker.
This may literally be one of the nicest things anybody has ever written to me/told me. I have been having a really shitty day/week/blah, and you have no idea how much this cheered me up and made me smile. I’d love to hang out and paint nails with you. Also, I checked out your page and I think your nails are adorable as well. ThAaAaAaAnk YoOuuuUOUFSDuo! : )
i absolutely luv all of your designs i was wondering if u just learnd how to do them yourself or if some1 taught u i luv painting my nails and i wanted to learn how 2 do more designs and where is a good place 2 get stripers and dotting tools?!?! THX!!!
Thank you so much! I’ve never been taught how to do nail art- I just love to do it and put in the practice time on my own. The best way to get better at it is to paint nails as often as you possibly can! You can get stripers and dotting tools online on ebay, amazon, or places like bornprettystore.com. Hope that helps!
Hey! I'm just starting out with nail art, was just wondering what your top 5 tips are when it comes to nail art. I love your nails, very creative :) x
I’m gonna have to say that tips 1-3 are practice, practice, and then practice some more, because that’s just about the only way you’re gonna get better at nail art.
Number 4 is to have patience (lots of it), as there are times, when trying new designs, that the first few attempts don’t work out, and some level of patience is required before you just give up on whatever you’re doing.
My last tip would have to be to look for inspiration EVERYWHERE. Follow as many nail art blogs as you can, look at clothing, architecture, illustration, photos, and try to pull anything you think looks cool and see a way you can make it into a nail design. Even the packaging on things like tissue boxes and food products have cool designs sometimes. Keep an eye out and if you see something that inspires you, take a photo so you won’t forget about it. I hope this helps, and good luck with your journey into nail art. It’s a fun place to be : )
I dont know if you have gotten this kind of message yet, but you dont want to be calling the outlined nail art a rimjob lol! A rimjob is, to put it bluntly, when a person licks the rim of another persons butthole. I couldnt help but crack up when I saw you call the design by that name XD. just thought id let you know :P
AHAHAHAHA yes i know what a rimjob is. That was why I thought it was so hilarious when I saw those referred to as rimjobs once. I think my sense of humor doesn’t always translate as well online as it does in person haha
