Hi i absolutely LOVE your nail art!!!! Because i paint my nails every week, But can you please explain to me how you did that plaid pattern?? thankyou :)
thank you so much! and to do the plaid pattern, i use a small striper-y brush to paint a grid on my nails in the lighter color. then, i make boxes of the darker color over where the lines intersect so that it looks like plaid. i hope that made sense haha! thanks!
Hey Candice! I was just reading the anonymous questions about the nail art tag and realized that they may not know that you can view all the posts tagged nail art (not just the featured ones) if you click on the little link at the bottom of the sidebar on the main nail art page that says "show all posts tagged nail art". Tumblr moved it so it's harder to find now for some reason but it's still there! Just wasn't sure if the askers knew that :)
thank you for that! i was wondering where it had gone, haha, i was so confused! it’s really weird that they moved it so it’s harder to find now.
Why does it need to be 'featured' though? There's plenty of other tags where anything you tag shows up. It seems rather unfair that a small group of blogs gets to decide what everyone else on tumblr sees on a tag. And being someone who checks the nail art tag quite frequently, it seems to me that the same blogs show up constantly. Tags are meant to help people find blogs they're interested in, not for a small group of people to monopolize.
Basically there are certain tags that have editors if there are enough people that track that tag. Nail art is one of those, along with other ones like “LOL” or “Gifs” or stuff like that. For most tags, just everything shows up, but in these ones, there are a bunch of editors who get somehow chosen by Tumblr (I just got an email one day this winter- it was a VERY exciting day for me), and it adds a little star to the corner of all posts for you. Basically, I just click that little star on any post that I want to get featured in the nail art tag, and then it shows up there!
I do definitely notice that the same blogs are up all the time, though, and it does bother me. I’m not the most active editor, I won’t lie, and I do want to start making a concerted effort to feature new and different nail artists. I think part of this is due to the fact that there are just some nail people that put out consistently amazing work, but I’ve recently started following a bunch of new nail art blogs so I can do this, and I hope it’ll start to diversify the tag! Hope that answered all your questions!
Also I wanted to note that we are not able to feature our own posts, so it’s not like us editors are just promoting ourselves! I hope it doesn’t seem that way!
As an editor of of the 'nail art' tag, can you think of any reason my work isn't showing up? I emailed support but they said it was because I put in 'nail art' instead of 'nailart' (something about not being allowed to use spaces), but other people's are showing up. I've actually started using both tags but it's not showing up on either. Do you guys have to approve it or something before it goes on the page?
Nail art does get approved by an editor before it shows up on the board. Generally it takes some time before you start to get things featured there. Message me with your tumblr name and I’d love to check out your work, though!
i seriously can't get over how fucking amazing your stuff is!! i love painting my nails but this is art and i'm seriously jealous of your talent. this was probably asked before but how much nail polish do you own?! i'm thinking crazy amounts. either way keep up the amazing work!
Haha thank you so much! I own seriously a ridiculous amount of nail polish… I haven’t counted in a while, but I think it has to have eclipsed 300 bottles by now. WHOOOPS #yolo
Have you ever used Wet n' Wild's top coat? I know it sounds crazy, but it's my favorite (and it's $1). I use it with all my nail art, acrylic paint and polish and I've only had it smear once or twice. I used to get so frustrated, trying to find one that worked (I've used OPI, Seche Vite, Sally Hansen and NOTHING worked) I dunno how well it'd hold up with studs, but it's worth a shot if you're not happy with the way yours smears sometimes.
Wow I’ll totally try that out! Doesn’t smear and is only a doll hair, I have nothing to complain about. Thanks! : )
Hi! I love your nails and your tutorials, I was wondering if you could tell me how you did the stars on your most recent post please? They are fab! x
thank you so much! as far as the stars go, there’s no real trick unfortunately. I just paint those with a little tiny brush. I start with a dot for the center and then flick the little points outward so they can be really tiny and nice. I’d say just practice it on paper a few times before doing it on your nails so you can get it right- they tend to be kind of finnicky. hope that helps! : )
hello, first off all i want to tell you, yeas swuared, was squared. Mistake of my keyboard. Forgive me :). And now the question: I love the pastel gradient nails. How i can make them and what two colours would you recomend me?
Haha I figured it was just a typo, no worries! Especially considering that you are Spanish, your English is very impressive! The colors I used in the gradient nails were Essie A Crewed Interest for the pink, and then the yellow is China Glaze Lemon Fizz. The gradient is actually really easy to do, too. I just used a makeup sponge to put on thin layers of yellow over the pink, doing each one closer to the tip of the nail until I had a smooth transition from yellow to pink. Hope that helps! : )
Hii I was just wondering if you could recommend a good nail pen and where I can get one. Also what are some of your favorite designs to do with a nail pen. Kickass nails btw :)
I think Sally Hansen makes some pretty good nail art pens, as I have a few friends that use them. However, I don’t own any and never really use them so I couldn’t tell you what designs are my favorite to do with them. However, I’m sure any of my more delicate designs would look really great with the super thin lines that only a nail pen can really create. Thanks! I hope this helped
Hey, I was just wondering if you made false nails? If not it would be really cool:)
As of right now, I don’t, but I think I want to start doing so over the summer or something like that. I think it would be fun if I did a giveaway where a few of my followers could like get a nail set of their choice or something like that when (if) I start doing it!
Mr Candice! (Okay so I saw that on the other ask and thought it was hilarious also. Sorry. :D) I got impatient after asking you about googly eyes, and tried it myself. I just ended up placing the eyes on semi dried (tacky?) polish, and then using topcoat as sort of a paper-maché-style finish--if that makes any sense. Like I painted on top as normal, went around/between the eyes, and then on top to smooth the extra stuff out. It worked out awesomely; everything was secure!
ahahahahaha YES I love the Mr Candice thing. I’m glad you figured out a way to work the googly eyes! Also sorry it took me so long to reply about that. I’m usually really prompt when it comes to answering asks, but I was feeling sooooo lazy last week.
hey, was just wondering if you could explain how to do roses/flower patterns on your nails?! :)
When I do roses on my nails, I just use the brush that comes in the bottle to make the base color for the flower in a roughly circular shape. Then I take either black or a darker version of the base color, and use a tiny little brush to make curvy lines from the center out so it looks like it has overlapping petals? (did that make any sense at all??) then just either use green or black to make little lumps on the edges of the flowers for leaves, which makes them look 100 times better. I hope this was somewhat understandable… Also I have a floral print tutorial on my youtube page if you wanna check it out! My youtube name is the same as it is on tumblr, and I only have two videos (I’m slacking so baaad…….) but that might help you out better than this hahaha. Thanks so much! : )
I am wondering what you would recommend for attaching googly eyes to natural nails. White glue? Hot glue would destroy nails, right? And layering topcoat wouldn't work, would it? That's all I could think of. :( Thanks! I love your blog, by the way--it's so upbeat and inspiring!
I think I’d suggest just using clear polish in little dots where you want the eyes to be to attach them so they won’t damage your nails. Also I don’t see why putting topcoat over them couldn’t work- just make sure you use one that doesn’t bubble and dries nice and shiny and it should work just fine. I’d say just do a few test runs with different methods to see what works best. Hope that helps! And thank you : )
How you did the cat in your nailart? It's beautiful >o<
If you look through my archive, you’ll see my original cat nails where they are on every nail, and in that post I put a link to the tutorial I used to paint them. Wondernail did them first, just much smaller, and I used her tutorial to do it right. Thanks so much!
i just spent the last hour going through your entire blog and a) you are awesome b) you BALL at nail art c) i almost went to F&M (it was actually my first choice but they couldn't offer me enough financial aid, boo) and i hope you're not creeped out that i am sad i couldn't have gone to meet you? okay great.
Ahahahaha thanks!! That would have been so funny if you went to f&m. It’s a great school but you’re right- it’s expensive as BUTTS and just getting worse. BLUH. But thank you so much! You are awesome too haha : )
I was just curious if you have any tips for preventing hangnails? Thanks!
I think the best way to prevent these is to not cut your nails down all the way at the sides? I’m not quite sure about this, however, so a google search might provide better results than I can give you haha. Hope that helped at least a tiny bit?
Hi guys, just letting you know that I am currently on vacation in the Bahamas with my family and have very limited internet access, so I miiiight update once or twice this week, but don’t be too worried if that doesn’t happen haha. I’ll be back to school on Monday with my normal schedule! Have a wonderful week, and I’ll miss you lovelies!
so i love your blog, and i just basically went through all the nail art you follow and followed it too xD i was wondering if you had any tips for tape manis as i RUIN them very very very badly. have a lovely break! much love for your gorgeous self and terrific nails. xo
I’m sorry to say, I have no tips concerning taping. I’ve tried it maybe twice before, and my conclusion was that I just don’t have the patience to do it. However, Chloe’s Nails and Nailside both have really great tutorials, so you should check those out! They’re incredibly helpful! Also thank you so much! You’re such a sweetheart : )
I just bought Sally Hansen Insta Dri top coat because I didn't like the shrinkage (hehe) with Seche Vite, but whenever I use it, it doesn't seem to ever dry completely. I have a feeling I am using too much. What do you think?
That’s probably the problem with it, because I’ve never had a problem with that. When I apply mine, I like to get a lot of top coat on the brush so that it won’t smear my design, and then just brush it out so that it’s nice and thin. Also you’ll want to wait until your nail polish underneath has dried for about 5 minutes or so, because I have had problems with it when I’ve put it on too soon. Hope that helps!
I apologize if you've answered this question a million times before, but I need some help deciding what base and top coat I should start using. I just recently stopped putting on fake nails, because I wanted my real nails to grow. The only problem is I never even bothered to use a base coat on the fake nails, and the Seche Vite I always used as a top coat just kind of peels off of my natural nails.. Got any advice? haha also please never stop posting cuz you've got mad $killz lol :D
Haha thank you! As far as base coats go, I use either OPI’s Nail Envy, and sometimes OPI’s Ridge Filler. If your nails are really damaged from the fake nails, I’d suggest using Nail Envy, because I know it works wonders for weak or damaged nails.
I don’t like Seche Vite as much as most people do, but that’s because it shrinks like crazy on me. Instead, I use Sally Hansen Dries Instantly as my top coat, and I’ve never had any problems with that one hurting my nails. (Also it’s only like four dollars a bottle which is nice) I hope all that helps! Good luck getting your nails healthy!
I plan on it, actually! I’m going home for spring break today, and though I’m going on vacation with my family, I’ll be home for a few days and should have time to do at least one. I’m gonna try to do one!
okay so i saw your newest nails on my iphone late last night and i was literally just planning on coming over here today and telling you how much i like them cuz damn girl they are badass. i am also SO into clean line work, chevrons, repeating patterns etc. so they are my jam for sure. and then as i was planning on doing this, i saw your super nice note on my most recent nails and i was like SQUEE SO HAPPY. so just wanted to tell you that, too! yay!
Ahahahaha thank you so much! I was thinking that when I saw your nails- SO BADASS. I love the framing with the abstract design in the middle. So cool. This note just made my day, you have no idea. Thank you!! Double SQUEEEE : )
i love your art :) you're super talented! I'm probably never going to be able to pay that much attention to detail, but say I were going to try to start doing some nail art... what would I need?
Thank you so much! And don’t doubt yourself too much- All you need is a big passion for it, because when you’re first starting out and looking at all of the really cool things out there, sometimes you’re gonna feel discouraged. Do not fear, though, as the more you paint your nails and the more you practice, you will be amazed at how much better you get and how QUICKLY that happens.
That and a few tiny brushes and some acetone with your favorite nail polishes should do the trick. Good luck with your nail art journey! I’m so excited for people just getting into it. It is such a fun hobby : )
I was talking with a friend who just recently stopped biting her nails yesterday, and she said that it’s mostly just a battle of how strong your will to stop is versus how badly you want to bite your nails. However, I do know they sell stuff you can put on your nails to make them taste really gross at most drug stores, so maybe that could help?
Just wanted to say that you are AWESOME! Your nail designs are so inspiring! I've had this problem of biting my nails my whole life and have FINALLY stopped thanks to you! Every time I feel the urge to bite now, I go to your blog and decide which mani I want to try next instead! It's awesome. You're awesome. And my nails are finally growing out!! :D THANK YOU
omg this is literally the nicest message i have ever gotten. and by that i mean this is the nicest thing anyone has ever said to me. i am so glad i could help you quit biting your nails! thank YOU : )
Ummmm wow. Just saw your nails inspired by a song. And I think we need to be tumblr married. I listen to M83 - Midnight city FAAAAAAAR too much. Favourite song ever. And you're nails inspired by that song is incredibly well thought out. I love it! <3
Yessss I am so happy people like those nails! I was so so happy with them and still listen to that song all the time too haha. SOULMATES. Thanks so much! : )
