HI GUYS. SO I was going to make another video this afternoon, and I was thinking I’d do a kind of FAQ/random questions sort of thing. That being said, ask me some questions! About myself or whatever or whatever or nails or yeah. I hope those guidelines for the questions are helpful…. Soooo, what do you want to know about me?
Not a question but I'm watching your videos (looking for inspiration and will probably be trying the striped gradient) but I love the beginnings of your videos. I feel like my equally awkward friend is talking to me and teaching me nail art. I love it! :)
YAAAAYYYYY I’m glad somebody likes my intros because I actually really love filming them and talking to you guys. Sure, I get really flustered and always forget 67.7778% of what I was planning on saying, but I do like the beginnings. I think it keeps my videos more personal! And, once again, YAAAAAYYYY
so i decided to tie dye today and after making some cool looking shirts.... i'm afraid to wash them. i know you're a nail blog butttttt you just tie dyed so i figured i'd ask. how do you go about washing newly tie dyed stuff ?
Oh shoot I didn’t see this answer until right now! I rinsed mine well in cold water and then stuck them all in the wash together with some color catcher sheets, and set to run with hot and then cold water to seal in the color. Regular detergent and all that. I hope it’s not too late even though it almost surely is haha…
1) what striper brush, exactly, is yours? i have one that looks similar to yours but it never works as well :( i think you said you got it on amazon - could you link us to the listing? 2) i don't know if it's in the works already, but count me as a person who would love to hear more about your makeup/see makeup tutorial kind of stuff from you!
Is it too thick for you to use well? I find I have to cut some of my brushes to make them more usable and whatnot for me. Here’s the set of brushes I use, it’s 10$ for fifteen brushes and a holder which is a really awesome deal.
And I think I might start posting like looks of the day or something really casually, maybe doing swatches or whatever if I find things I really like. I’m glad people are into the idea of my branching out a bit into makeups! yay! Does anybody else have opinions on this? Also note that it definitely wouldn’t start to dominate the nail art postings, and I have zero plans to turn into a primarily makeup blog.
you may have posted about it already, but I am inherently lazy for backtracking... what happened with Mr. Mcdouchypants, the photo stealer? can't remember the blog. did you get in touch with tumblr staff at all?
Ahaha mr. mcdouchypants, for a crappy person that’s a really great name. And I never did contact Tumblr support because… Well because I don’t really have a reason, I just didn’t. However, douchepants hasn’t posted in a few weeks, and I’m content with that. I was mostly just concerned that people were aware of the stealing for what it was- stealing.
why are your hands blue if your tie dye shirt is yellow orange and pink??
Good question. I did tiedye with the 40 kids on the dive team that I coach, so I rinsed out and washed all of their shirts, and the blue dye definitely stuck the most to my fingers and the shirts. The edges of my nails are still dark teal… So obnoxious.
What do you look for when you follow other nail blogs? :)
I look for cleanliness- I don’t need your manicures to be perfect, but if they’re sloppy I might now follow you. Originality helps too, like showing that you’re not just recreating all the most popular designs at any one time. Not to say that I won’t follow a nail blog that doesn’t have entirely unique designs, because that’s just not gonna happen usually. Generally I’ll follow a nail art tumblr as long as it doesn’t have too many posts of other things that happen to annoy me. I’m sorry to say that if you reblog a different 1D post every five minutes, I’m not going to follow you. It doesn’t matter how great you are at nail art. It just won’t happen.
SO i recently got into nail art and looked up some blogs to follow, saw yours, and now I'm sitting here amazed! You are so good its unbelievable! So I just had a quick question, I tried doing one floral designs on my nails but had trouble because towards the end my brush was horrible and the polish really wasn't doing what I wanted. Someone suggested I use acrylic paint and I was wondering if you had ever tried it and of so what your thoughts on using it were?
Personally I’ve never used acrylic polish on my nails, but from what I’ve heard about it some people love it. I don’t think it lasts as well as polish does, but there are some other pros, buuuut having never used it I don’t really know what they are. The trick to keeping your brush from getting gloopy and tacky is cleaning it off every few nails just so the half-dried polish on it doesn’t get too built up. That and giving yourself a new little drop of polish to work from as soon as your first drop starts to get stringy. Hope that helps!
Can you please do a tutorial on how to do the nails on this; mrcandiipants(.)tumblr(.)com/post/23316671907 not the marbled ones the other ones, I don't know how to describe them! They're really cool though! :)
I might do something like that. I guess I’d call them tribal nails, and to give a quick rundown of how I did them, first I painted my nails with one layer of white, then I used black polish and a striper to outline the designs, then I filled in the colors, and finally finished it over with black again. Somewhat time-consuming but a fairly easy design!
Is it bad for your nails if you paint them every day or can you do it as much as you like?
I don’t think it’s great for them, and if you have inherently weak nails it might be best not to have them always painted, but I’ve never had issues with breaking or stuff because of painting them all the time. Then again, I am by no means a professional. I don’t want to give you all the wrong information!
Would love a tutorial on the birds if you could, they are lovely! Thanks for keeping up in your blog, I really look forward to seeing what you do next. Thanks for the inspiration:)
I don’t really think I’ll do a tutorial for them, because they’re definitely a pretty advanced design and I don’t think I have any handy tips for them. It was mostly a trial and error kind of manicure and I don’t think I could make a very good guide to doing them. I’m glad you liked them so much, though! If you want to know how to do those kinds of more detailed nail designs, check out robinmoses on youtube. That’s totally her area of expertise!
Hey Candice, I think Ella is super cute and all, and I don't think you're a creeper or anything like that! But I just don't think you should post pictures of a little girl without her parents' permission? :/ Idk if it's just me, but you have a lot of followers who will see the picture, and I don't want you getting in trouble or anything.
I appreciate the sentiment, and I can totally see where you’re coming from, but I can assure you that posting the photos is fine. I’m really close with her parents and it’s not as though I’ve given away where I live and what pool we work at. No worries!
i just want to say that for someone who does nail art and shows off their hands (and feet) constantly, you have terrible, nasty wrinkly skin and it is so unappealing. please find a new hobby or use some damn lotion
I guess I’m a real blog now because I get random rude messages now. Sorry my toes are creased and rough like that. I’m an athlete. I have callouses all over them. I’ll go find a new hobby now that you’ve pointed this out, though. It’s probably for the best since a mystery stranger on the internet told me to.
Has the smell of nail polish ever bothered you? Pretty much the only place I can paint my nails is in my bedroom because my mom can't stand the smell. That's worked for a while, but lately I feel like I've been smelling it all the time, and it's kind of annoying. I always open the window, but that doesn't seem to help much anymore. I could paint outside, but I live in Seattle, so 80% of the time, it's too wet/cold to be outside painting nails. What do you do to deal with the smell?
Honestly I don’t really notice it when I’m doing my nails. If I’ve been painting for a while, leave the room and then come back, then I notice it, but I’m kind of immune now. Maybe if you set up a fan nearby that would help?
hello. i am from uranus. i am doing a report on how the girl gender uses the hard things on the ends of their fingers. what is the reason that you started painting these things called "fingernails"?
I love this question. Greetings from Earth. I didn’t know Uranese spoke English, this is news to me! But I started painting these so-called “fingernails” because I had a lot of free time one summer, and it was a great way to combine my love of fashion/style and art!
I just today I bought China Glaze's "Surfin' for Boys," which I've been in love with since I first saw the swatches. However in my bottle it seems like the fine pink micro shimmer in the polish has concentrated on the bottom and one side of the bottle, and shaking doesn't have much of an effect. Is there anything I can do to better disperse the shimmer, or should I exchange it for another one?
I’m not really sure what you should do! I’ve heard of other people having this issue with this collection, and one lady said she just shook the crap out of the bottle until the shimmer distributed itself. How does it look when applied? I think if it applies okay, then the shimmer being a little heavier on the bottom and side would be okay.
What do you use, like camera/tripod wise, to make your tutorials on YouTube?
I use my dad’s big dslr camera to shoot them, and this dinky little tripod on my desk that falls over ALL THE TIME because the camera is really heavy. My camera setup for my tutorials is so n00bish and precarious and just not the greatest. I really need to work on that…
what did you type in to find the false nail sets on ebay?
I’ve had a few people ask me this question, so I decided to just find the link for you guys myself because when I ordered these nails, and again now, it was pretty difficult to find this listing. Here it is! If you look at the seller, they have listings of different colors and amounts as well.
You’re the worst kind of person. It’s great that you’re into nail art and that you started a blog showing off lots of peoples work, but what kind of shit do you think you’re pulling right now? Every single photo that is on your blog does not belong to you, yet every photo somehow links back to your page. And you know what else is weird? You’re doing this on a website that actively encourages REBLOGGING from the original owner of a photo! It’s easy! It is so stinkin’ easy to click a button next to a picture you like, and then it’s on your blog too! But that’s not what you decided to do. You decided to take the route that A is more work and that B makes you look like a douche.
I know, I know, it could be worse, you could have replaced all of our original watermarks with your own, and you didn’t, but that doesn’t make it okay! We work hard to make these little pieces of art on our hands, and yeah, we want people to see them, but people like you are what makes us want to stop! You’re awful!
I sent you a very polite message requesting that you take all of the stolen images down, and you didn’t. In fact, in the two days since I sent said message, two more of my own pictures have magically appeared on your site, as well as ones from many other nail art people around here.
All I ask is that you stop. You’re not helping yourself by doing this, and you’re not helping anybody else. I hope you get a big shitload of girls yelling at you in your ask right about now up until you stop with the bullshit.
Since it's summer and we're all letting the little piggies hang loose, how about some cute toe designs?
To be honest, I don’t really do anything special with my toes. Mostly just bright, solid colors. I guess I could do something cool every so often, but I must warn you all, my toes are mildly freakish. Not only my second toes, but also my third toes are longer than the big one. I’m quarter monkey.
I know nails are your thong, but could you pretty please post some sort of tutorial on the makeup look that are in most of your nail art videos? It doesn't have to be a video tutorial, even a step-by-step picture or a written tutorial would be lovely. I love your natural yet fresh look!
Would anybody else be into me doing makeup stuff every so often? As much as I’m a nail junkie, I’m pretty into makeup too! I can describe what I was wearing in my most recent tutorial if that helps!
In the summer I get lots of freckles, which I love, so I generally wanna even out my skin tone without covering them up, so lately I’ve been using just a little bit of the Garnier BB cream in the lighter color, and I’ve been pretty happy with how that works and feels on my skin. I’m huge on blush, so I’m pretty sure I was wearing just a light little bit of Tarte Amazon Clay Blush in Blissful on the apples of my cheeks, and I think I had a little bit of Physicians Formula light bronzer in my contour areas.
For my eyes, I had on L’Oreal Infallible eye shadow in eternal sunshine all over the lid with a little bit of a medium matte brown shadow in the crease to darken and wet n wild black creme liner as a winger.
My favorite form of makeup is lipstick (though blush is up there with it) and recently I’ve been really into the Revlon Just Bitten Kissable Balm Stain thingers, and my favorite color, which I was wearing just a little bit of in the video (and in that instagram photo of me with the silly glasses), is Lovesick. It’s a gorgeous hot pink color but also super moisturizing and fairly long-wearing for something that feels so nice. I want all of the colors!
I hope all this helps, and let me know if you guys want makeup reviews or like swatches or faces of the day or that kinda stuff because I’d be into it. Also, haha, nails are my “thong”. Typos are funny.
