gabbasaurus-rex replied to your photo: Simple multicolored stripes, but I really love how…
do you paint each color separately? or do you paint a base and then add the other colors around it?
I painted a thin base of My Vampire is Buff (though any white or off-white would do, it’s just what was handy), and then painted on the stripes individually.
Simple multicolored stripes, but I really love how they look! Clean and bright.
ardnuatal asked: So I've recently tried to do a mani using nail art brushes that I got a while ago. When I started to do a few lines, it didn't work out at all. They didn't come out clean. When I tried to do a line, the brush would go through the paint I'm painting with and into my base color under it....messed it up. I hope I'm explaining this right lol. But my question is (I just watched a few of your tutorials, so I figured you'd have some insight): should I trim down my brushes for them to work better?
I think I understand your problem, and I say go ahead and try trimming them. It sounds like that brush is pretty much unusable as-is, so even if you tried trimming and it didn’t work, it wouldn’t be a loss. I hope it helps you! Crappy nail art brushes are such pains.
nailaliciousblog asked: Okay so I use my polish remover (I use a no alcohol, no acetone soy based Priti NYC remover) to clean my nail art brushes, but I've been having a problem! My nail art brushes' wooden handles are painted, and when I clean off my brushes the paint comes off. Does this happen with acetone too, or just my hippie remover?
That happens to all my brushes, and I use acetone. I think it’ll happen to basically all brushes with all removers. When it starts to annoy me too much, I’ll dip my brush as far as I can into the remover, and then roll it around on a piece of printer paper, which takes some of the paint off. Do this a few times, and then it makes a little less of a mess when you’re painting,
Anonymous asked: Do you have any advice on how to prevent top coats from smearing designs?? Every time I do something awesome my top coat smears it and I want to cry.
I put my topcoat on really thick. As in, I generally don’t wipe any off the brush and that super thick layer of top coat makes it so I can apply it without the brush touching the design. It might make drying time a little longer, but it’s worth it, especially when I’ve done something really intricate.
I hope this makes some sort of sense? Because I know what a sad thing it is to make an awesome design and to have it ruined only because you were trying to protect it. It’s a travesty!!
Anonymous asked: re: the post asking about colors not opaque enough for nail art -- just picturing you having to deal with that in a scenario like your last video where you were racing against your camera's battery life. lol.
hahahaha i would have cried. and then posted the video because i would have found it funny, but only days after. It would have scarred me for days. I was seriously so stressed though when I saw my camera was dying!
Anonymous asked: You're on a roll with all these videos lately!! I'm obsessed with all of your work, thank you so much for sharing all of these things. Stay amazing!!
Thanks so much! I’m having a lot of fun making them in the past month, and I’m hoping that continues. I feel like I’ve really hit my stride lately as far as making them quality (whether it be learning about nail shit quality, or entertainment quality) and doing them just gives me a little sense of accomplishment. They’re fun, and I’m glad lots of people seem to be enjoying them too!
Anonymous asked: what do you do with the polishes you own that aren't opaque enough to do nail art with (streaky/jelly-ish/need 3 coats for full smooth coverage/etc) ? or do you just keep layering the paint on until the desired opacity?
I don’t have a lot of patience for colors that don’t work for nail art when I’m actually doing nail art, but I don’t mind 3-coaters for base colors so I generally use them for that. However, if I’m trying to use a sheer color over something dark, I’ll generally use white polish under that to make the design pop more. I don’t find myself running into this problem all that often though, and I’m not sure why… Probably just has something to do with my oversized collection…
An old favorite mani of mine. I don’t think I’ve done this in over a year and I don’t know why because it’s so darn pretty!
Mr.Candiipants turned 2 today!
WHOA!! Crazy! I was just thinking that I’d been doing nail art for about 2 years today, and then I got this email a few hours later! What should I do for my second birthday as Mr.Candiipants??
A giveaway? Contest? Invitation to all y’all to come party at my house? Send each one of you a single strand of my hair?
Oof. Usually I’m not big into these kinds of florals, BUT DAT MIDDLE FINGER THO. Freakin’ obsessed with the square frame. I guess that’s what I’ll call it? Square frame? Eh?
